Am I allowed to put luggage straps around my suitcase?

At Brussels Airport it is not allowed to put luggage straps around suitcases.
This is to prevent the straps getting stuck in the baggage sorter and creating malfunctions.
Passengers are requested to remove the luggage straps from their suitcase before checking in their luggage. The luggage straps may be carried in hand luggage.
