Alcazaba

An absolute must-see – and not just for the splendid view – is the Moorish fortress La Alcazaba. The base was constructed in the 9th century and in the 11th century it was further developed into a fortress. It is a maze of patios, courtyards, ponds and fountains. Each spot has its own story. La Alcazaba is sometimes called ‘the little Alhambra’, and rightly so.

Museo Picasso

This museum will without a doubt be at the top of the wish list of Picasso lovers who have booked a flight to Malaga. It exhibits a diverse collection of sketches, paintings and sculptures. The building housing the museum is a feast for the eyes as well. It is a palace dating from the first half of the 16th century and was built on the remnants of a Moorish palace. Nice to know: in Museo Picasso you will see a number of works you can’t find anywhere else.

The Roman Theatre

El Teatro Romano is one of the oldest theatres in Spain. It was built under Roman emperor Augustus, around the 1st century BC. The theatre was only rediscovered in the nineteen-fifties. Quite late, as the theatre had remained hidden beneath rubble and mud for centuries. Book a flight to Malaga and explore this historical must-see!

Calle Marqués de Larios

Shopping lovers, write down: Calle Marqués de Larios! It is Malaga’s main shopping street, boasting many well-known chain stores. You can go to Massimo Dutti, Mango, Zara, Pull&Bear and some nice shoe shops. Most shops are open until 9.30 pm!

Malaga Cathedral

Malaga’s eye-catcher is without a doubt the cathedral. It can be admired from almost any corner of the city. Built between the 16th and 18th centuries, it took 200 years to complete the construction. The cathedral has actually never been finished: due to a lack of money, they had to make do with only one tower … This is why the locals use the nickname ‘La Manquita’ to refer to the cathedral, Spanish for ‘the one-armed lady’. The Renaissance interior is equally impressive to see, so make sure you take a look inside.
